Teens age 15½ to under 18 must complete the following California DMV requirements:
1. Complete 30 Hours of Online Driver Education
Start by completing a California DMV-approved Online Driver Education Course.
This is the first step toward earning your learner’s permit.
2. Submit Your California DMV Application
Complete your permit application, pay DMV fees, and submit required documentation.
Important: Once you submit your application, you have one year to complete the licensing process.
3. Pass the California DMV Written Permit Test

4. Complete 6 Hours of Behind-the-Wheel Driver Training
