Academy Driving Instructor Position (Bay Area)
We are seeking motivated individuals for a career as a state-licensed driving instructor in California.

Service Areas Hiring Now
We are currently hiring instructors to cover:
- Santa Clara County
- San Mateo County
Instructors will pick up and drop off company training vehicles from designated locations in the Santa Clara and Redwood City areas.
Compensation & Pay
- $22.00 – $30.00 per hour (DOE, consolidated rate)
- Part-time positions available
- Minimum 18 hours per week required
- Each shift includes 2-hour driving lessons plus travel time
- Non-exempt hourly position
Additional Opportunities:
- Paid training provided (no experience required)
- State instructor training available for qualified applicants
- Signing bonus available for already licensed instructors
- Higher starting pay for candidates with teaching credentials or education degrees
Responsibilities
Driving instructors will:
- Train teen and adult students in behind-the-wheel driving
- Provide clear, calm, and structured instruction
- Identify areas of improvement and coach students effectively
- Adapt teaching methods for different skill levels and backgrounds
- Maintain student training records
- Promote safe driving habits and DMV compliance
- Support student progress toward DMV test readiness
Requirements & Qualifications
California DMV Instructor Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be at least 21 years of age (CA requirement)
- Hold a valid California driver’s license
- Have a clean driving record
- Pass DMV background check and Live Scan fingerprinting
- Provide proof of High School Diploma or GED
- Obtain or transfer a valid CA DMV Instructor License
👉 No experience required — we provide training for qualified candidates.
Skills & Competencies
Ideal candidates will have:
- Strong knowledge of California driving laws and DMV handbook
- Excellent communication and teaching skills
- Patience and professionalism
- Strong observational and safety awareness skills
- Ability to work with nervous or beginner drivers
- Basic understanding of vehicle operation and safety
Work Schedule
- Monday – Sunday availability
- Hours: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- Flexible scheduling based on student availability
- Evenings and weekends required
- Seasonal variations in scheduling (summer and holidays)
